Paintings
In pursuit of mediums that can capture fleeting moments of intense saudade, I experiment with watercolor, colored pencil, ink, acrylic, oil pastel, gouache, gel pen, and mixed media.

My most recent works explore the rich consciousness of the natural world, invoking concepts of balance, chaos, coexistence, and reparation.

Pink Paradise
acrylic on canvas 18x24in
A piece inspired by the tranquil landscapes of Japanese traditional gardens.
Everything in this painting is alive, from the moss, to the heron, to the petals, to the water.

A Letter to the Colonizers
acrylic on canvas
16x20in
This painting draws upon the Japanese practices of daisugi, meaning platform cedar, and kintsugi, meaning gold seams.
Daisugi, a horticultural technique that involves pruning tree branches to create straight shoots, enables lumber harvest without chopping down a mother cedar tree.
Kintsugi, a traditional repair method, entails sealing broken pieces of pottery together with a Japanese lacquer and illuminating the cracks with gold powder.
We must never forget that we are all connected, bounded by our Earthly threads; no tree grows freely from its roots steeped in nightmarish violence.

Playing with Color
Exploring the fluidity and vitality of color through acrylic paint and mixed media:
Suspended in motion, these colors serve as bottled essences of fleeting feelings.

Carousel | 2021
Through this piece, I aimed to convey the bittersweet sense of liberation we gain as we grow up.
Whenever I think of a carousel, I am struck by a sense of nostalgia because it was my favorite ride as a kid, so I used warm, gentle colors to create a dreamy atmosphere. The peach-colored clouds progress into a cool blue to illustrate the uncertainty and ambiguity of adulthood in comparison to our childhood days.
In the flow of the painting, the horses on the right side are embellished with heavy ink outlines and excessive mark-making, as well as accessories and poles. As the horses gallop across the background, the lines become sparser and their accessories fade away: they break free from the carousel’s confines and run on their own path without reins or saddles.
Although the future is undefined, we must move forward with resilience and seek the moments of sunlight streaming through storm clouds.

Mural
I had the honor of designing and painting the 2022 senior class wall for my high school. As the Senior Sharks, we decided on an underwater theme, which I first sketched in Procreate. From then, I led a team of peers to paint our wall of over 20 feet long.
